Xeriscaping - Landscaping with Drought-Resistant Plants

The type of landscape you have can help or hurt your water conservation efforts. Xeriscaping techniques will help you save water, money and energy. Originally developed for drought-afflicted areas, it is now gaining in popularity. This technique is low maintenance and low cost.

  • Build Better Buffers: Uneven yards face water runoff challenges. To reduce water runoff, plant shrubs or ground covers, which have dense root systems. These plants will act as buffers that help retain water and keep topsoil in place.
  • Group Similar Plants: Depending on the species of plants you have they may require more or less water. When planting, group plants that require more water together, and plants that require less water together. This will make your watering efforts more efficient.
